A Grand Stop On The Grand Journey

Lone Rock was a blast. When we woke up on the beach the following day, we decided to camp an extra night. The day was Monday, which gave us the opportunity to go to the library, bust out a post or two, then head back to the beach and play some water footbeers and beersbee. With that plan in mind, we looked for directions to the library. The site said "Closed Monday..." Outraged, we altered the plan and decided to drive to the Grand Canyon.

When we informed Siri that we were planning on going to the Grand Canyon, she gave us a ridiculous route. We generally relied on our trusty Atlas to get us around, but we like Siri's input on the approximate time it will take us to get there. Also giving us a time to beat... Our Atlas directions pointed us straight there heading southwest; Siri pointed us on a path to begin driving 50 miles northwest. We disagreed and asked the park ranger at Lone Rock the best route to take. She informed us that the road was closed due to a giant rock slide so we had to take the Northwest route through Utah. We shrugged and gave Siri the pass. With the tunes blasting in the desert, we disregarded the speed signs and cruised toward one of America's true natural wonders.

Quick drive... Only took a couple hours, a stop at Subway, and we were there.

Getting educated by Boz Scaggs about the National Park Pass granting access to all of the National Parks for one fixed cost. Unfortunately, we didn't get this memo back at Glacier National Park.

After we entered the gate, we were greeted by a plush prairie which we later learned was home to thousands of deer...

After a twenty minute drive, we arrived at the lodge located at the North Rim. Eager to get out and view this natural wonder, we walked around the lodge and were amazed.

Peter and the Wolf at the Grand Canyon.

We had enough of the gated cliffs and were ready to go on a hike in search of new views and wildlife.

We needed walking sticks first. Wolf became a master walking stick gatherer. See "The Staff" in Yellowstone.

Took a quick break from the hike. Not a bad view to enjoy.

Saw our fair share of little reptiles and critters along the way. This guy tried to blend in but Peter has a unique (bizarre) eye for frogs.

Not sure what this is but it made it on the blog.

After a another quarter mile of walking, we found the spot.

Incredible views.

One of the best pics of the trip.

After soaking it in one last time, we decided to head back to our campsite just outside of the park. We were informed that you need to make a reservation 6 months in advance to camp inside the park.

Peter using the facilities before the walk back. Equally epic view.

Keep your eyes out for any deer.

We weren't able to capture any pictures of the deer, but it was a dangerous scene. With the sun setting, the deer became more venturesome and would run out from behind trees onto the road. Wolf smartly lowered his speed and allowed the less intuitive cars to pass us.

After our intense drive dodging hundreds of deer, we made it to the only restaurant within 40 miles. Not surprisingly they sell a beer called, "Grand Canyon." And even less surprising, we ordered a round of them.

Our campsite across the road from the restaurant.
