Meeting the Locals

As we wander the old streets of Wallace, ID, Peter dials (406) 892-3250.

Peter: "Hi, we would like to reserve a campsite at Glacier National for 2 nights."
Glacier staff: "Okay, you will need to call (406) 892-2525."
Peter:  "Hi, we would like to reserve a camp site at Glacier National for 2 nights."
Glacier Staff #2: "Oh we don't do campsites, we only deal with hotels. You will need to call (406) 892-3250"

After the back and forth with the Glacier National staff, we took matters into our own hands and set up camp 30 minutes outside of the park in Whitefish, MT.

We eagerly hit the town and mingle the locals. As we were driving to the heart of downtown, we spotted "The Pin & Cue," a bowling alley/bar along Highway 93. Both Big Al's Sports Bar and Bowling Alley retirees, we couldn't pass up the $1.50 games and $6 Pabst pitchers.

After 5 games and a conversation with a Tennesseean, we hadn't fulfilled the goal to mingle with the locals. We headed to 2nd street and had great conversations with a Philadelphian, San Diegan, Australian, and a Belgian. With thoughts of Philly cheese steaks, the San Diego Padres and bourbon distilleries on our minds, we headed back to the campsite and jammed in the tent - "His Name was Wallace" was created.

  2. That photo of Wolf, rolling his ball down the storied lanes of the Pin and Cue, looks like a scene from 1957. That is the beauty of the back roads, it puts you into timeless settings...

KOA Campgrounds don't get any better than the one in Whitefish!

Have the time of your lives, guys....Keep the stories comin'!
