Luck O' The Irish

As we mentioned in our Chicago post, we were anxious to get back into smaller America. Indiana proved to be the haven we needed. Once beyond the highway toll booths, we found a campsite in the corn farm known as Chesterton. The fireflies and the quiet evening were just what the doctor ordered.

The primitive campsites we were used to were crowded by what the manager called, "Little Mexico." She told us to go anywhere, so we set up shop on an RV site.

The next morning, we woke up early to visit Notre Dame University in South Bend, only an hour east of Chesterton. We had this as a designated pit stop when we planned out our trip so we were excited for the visit. There was a sense of history and class that we weren't accustomed to. Here are a few photos from our experience through this legendary campus.

Photobombed by the passing nuns.

One of the many statues throughout the campus.

A picture of the main campus building. The student admissions office is located here along with their tribute to Christopher Columbus.

Inside the dome, one of the many Columbus murals.

Touchdown Jesus.

Knute and Knute Jr.

Lou Holtz, an iconic college football coach and hero to Notre Dame fans, is also a bonehead on ESPN.

View of the outside of the historical stadium, where Rudy once jogged onto that well manicured green grass.

We assume it was Alejandro Maldonado's great great grandpa.

Luke Harangody's jersey hangs proudly from the rafters. No joke.

Minor tribute to former basketball coach, Digger Phelps.

Lyrics to Notre Dame fight song behind Peter. Follow along:

Now going through Indianapolis and onto Highway 52...

  1. Hmmmm...I didn't see anything about Damien's. You make it there??

Also...Wolf...I thought for a minute the only shirt you brought on the trip reads "Oregon" on it. You look pretty good in red!

Peter...your beard is beginning to look like a beard. You really are a chip off of the old block. It took me about a year to grow mine too!

Don't forget to talk a walk ON Lake Erie when you are in Cleveland. Have a great time, guys.

  2. I don't know about the "good in red" comment above. Stevie looks like he is getting his dad's beer belly! And Stevie's prediction at the Cincy game was not correct when we chatted on the phone. I will call again now to find out "Where in the World is Peter and the Wolf"......
